Many Prescott-Russell families are currently struggling with problems due to flooding, leaving them destitute. When a tragic event occurs, children and youth can be affected by the information they receive and, because of their age and developmental level, are not always capable of interpreting what they hear or see. Here are some practical tips to help you support your children and youth:

  • supervise and limit access to the media for children aged 2 to 8;
  • counter false perceptions/information for children aged 8 to 16;
  • be reassuring and be there for them;
  • talk to them and answer their questions;
  • stress the positive (volunteering, community engagement, etc.);
  • ask for help - if your child’s symptoms persist, contact Valoris at 1-800-675-6168 for additional support.

We join our efforts to those of our community partners to help Prescott-Russell residents who are in need. If you know parents or families who need support, please call 1 800 675-6168. Our community workers are there for you.
