A beautiful gift of love for Claudette Ménard and Normand Brisson!

Valoris has changed our lives. For the past ten years, we’ve been proud homesharers. It all started in 1998 when Valoris asked if we could accommodate a child with special needs for a short period of time, to give a break to the family. The experience was very rewarding. Therefore, since 2001, we’ve welcomed children with special needs, adolescents and even very young children.

We also had the opportunity to expand our family with the addition of a little girl whose mother sadly passed away. She is a blessing and a wonderful addition to our family. Currently, we have the privilege of taking care of two beautiful girls with special needs. We are convinced that we play a vital role in their lives.

Valoris supports us and reassures us in all our activities. The agency values the development and growth of children and helps and supports all homesharers. Making the decision to care for children, adolescents and adults in need is the most beautiful gift of love that we can offer!

Chantal Cayer is living a wonderful experience!

Let me tell you about my journey. As a teenager, I had a friend who lived in foster care and so, at that moment, I realized my biggest wish would be to one day welcome a child in my home so he\she could be an integral part of my family.

I thought I had to be married and own a property to become a foster family until the day I visited Valoris for Children and Adults of Prescott-Russell’s website  and, to my delight, I learned that I fit the eligibility criteria.

After attending an information session in November 2011, I was convinced of my decision to become a foster parent. Before my home could be approved for foster care, Valoris’ professional team conducted a comprehensive assessment of my home and requested that I take several worthwhile and informational courses that would help me handle various situations. It was very exciting to meet people who shared the same dream, which is to make a difference in the life of a child.

On June 24 2012, I welcomed a beautiful 15-year-old girl in my home. Needless to say that the early stages were difficult; I wondered whether I had made the right decision, and if I had all the tools necessary to meet such a challenge. Fortunately, with the help and support of Valoris, I learned to adapt to my new role and parental authority. I learned to share my time, my space and accept that the house would not always be shiny and clean. I realized that it takes time to build a relationship of trust and harmony.

We do a lot of things together, and I must confess that when she calls me “mom," it warms my heart. My best Christmas gift was when she told me she felt happy living in my home. I hope to be part of her life for a very long time!

Yvette Bergeron and Gilles Surprenant share a loving success story

Ms Yvette Bergeron and Mr. Gilles Surprenant have devoted 18 years of their life in service to teenagers and adults with special needs. Last year, they decided to open their house to an adult with special needs for a long-term commitment, to love him and consider him as part of their family. They are conscious that taking care of disabled adults, who have difficulties in organizing their daily life, means various challenges for them.

“We are very proud of being homesharers as this life’s work is a very rewarding and enriching experience. It brings great satisfaction to see an adult with special needs expressing pride when realizing personal accomplishments and, as a result, being valued as an individual,” say Yvette and Gilles.

Yvette et Gilles share special moments with teenagers and adults such as enjoying nature at the cottage, admiring sunsets and moon reflections on the lake, listening to birds singing or simply relaxing around a cozy campfire.

They know that they can count on professional help and support to guide them with techniques to facilitate the adults’ integration into the community and help them improve their quality of life. Valoris for children and adults of Prescott-Russell needs devoted people such as the members of the Bergeron family to insure our adults have a good life, regardless of their condition.

Valoris takes this opportunity to thank all the families that dedicate their time to caring for our clients and for loving them.
